NYE, for me, has always felt the biggest anti-climax. You spend hours getting ready, planning, going to the party and then at midnight it’s all over. It’s one of those awkward things that you feel should be special but you can never quite make it feel special. That being said, this NYE was by far the absolute best of my entire life. Trust me, if you want to start your year right then Berlin is the place to be.
There’s nothing like people throwing lit fireworks in the street from 8am to get you in the party spirit and if you think that’s impressive; you should see the ones they throw at midnight. It’s tradition for people to throw fireworks and as terrifying as it sounds it was so incredibly beautiful. Even if we had to run from a few… I went to Berlin for a few days with my friends and it’s such a good city for a chilled break. We didn’t do much, other than eat and drink wine but it was nice for us to catch up, relax and celebrate.
What I Wore
Berlin was freezing and the city has such a grungy vibe that it’s a waste of time being dressy. Big coats, trainers, chunky boots and beanie hats are the only things you need to pack and I’d recommend layering up to keep warm. I lived in my big white coat for most of the trip and my chunky trainers which aren’t the best looking but are so comfy.
For NYE, however, I did make a little more effort and wore my new sequin trousers that I picked up in Amsterdam. I paired them with my long black blazer and Zara heels and slicked back my hair for some drama.
What I Ate
I found two nice places to eat and I remembered to take pictures at both so I thought I would share them with you.
PASSION
Oranienstraße 37, 10999 Berlin
We randomly saw this place after going to ORA, this bar that’s in an old pharmacy and were so hungry that I don’t think we knew what it was before going in. It turned out to be one of the best sushi places I’ve ever been to and the food was incredible, if not the best food I’ve ever had in Berlin. I went for Sake Don, a large bowl of rice with grilled teriyaki salmon and the Sunshine Roll sushi, which was salmon and mango wrapped in masago with a miso sauce.
L’Osteria
Budapester Straße 38-50, 10787 Berlin
As much as I hate sharing chain restaurants, the pasta, pizza and salads here are so good that it’s worth mentioning. Sometimes a girl just needs some carbs and L’Osteria definitely hits the spot. It’s essentially Italian comfort food with traditional dishes and a killer selection of wine.
